HEREFORD - Jewell Hargrave, 86, died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in West Park Cemetery followed by memorial services at 2:30 p.m. in First Baptist Church of Hereford with Dr. Nathan Stone and the Rev. Terry Cosby officiating. Arrangements are by Parkside Chapel.
Mrs. Hargrave was born in Jacksboro. In 1957, she graduated from beauty school in Amarillo. For many years, she owned and operated Jewell's Cut and Curl in Hereford.
Mrs. Hargrave was a member of First Baptist Church. She was a 40-plus-year member of the Cultural FCE Club where she was past council chairman, held every office at least once and attended several state and national conventions. She was active in the Hereford Riders.
Her first marriage was to Malcolm Cassels in 1929 at Hereford. He died in 1955. Her second marriage was to Tom Hargrave in 1960 at Petersburg. He preceded her in death in 1987.
Survivors include seven sons, Jimmy Cassels of Guymon, Okla., Dwayne Cassels of Hereford, Joe Cassels of Marietta, Okla., Butch Hargrave and Joe Hargrave, both of Lubbock, Kenneth Hargrave of Houston and Tommy Hargrave of Cleburne; a daughter, Mary Nell Hendricks of Monahans; eight brothers, Jack Owen of Carrollton, Mo., Warren Owen and Bobby Owen, both of Hereford, Gwyne Owen and G.P. Owen Jr., both of Cedar Creek, John David Owen of Seattle, Lawrence Owen of Hot Springs, Ark., and Homer Lee Owen of Waco; a sister, Anna Joe Wilson of Oklahoma City; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to Crown of Texas Hospice or Kings Manor Methodist Home.
