HEREFORD - Chester Harrison, 85, died Monday, Nov. 30, 2009.
Celebration of life services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Hereford Central Church of Christ with the Rev. Dorman Duggan officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery in Hereford. Military honors will be provided by the Hereford High School J.R.O.T.C. unit, and Masonic graveside rites will be provided by the Hereford Masonic Lodge No. 849. Arrangements are by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home.
Mr. Harrison was born June 5, 1924, in Winters to Carl and Nora Harrison. He married Tommye Young on Nov. 29, 1945 in Lubbock.
Chester served as a sergeant in the Marines during World War II and was stationed in Okinawa.
Chester and Tommye lived in Littlefield until 1955 when they moved to Hereford. He retired as the store manager and butcher of Piggly Wiggly after 22 years of service.
Chester was a 60-year member of the Hereford Masonic Lodge No. 849, a member of Hereford Lions Club, Deaf Smith County Crime Stoppers and Hereford Central Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Randi Brooke Harrison; two sisters, Alta Veda Thomas Stephens and Lucille Whisenhunt; and a brother, Delbert Harrison.
Survivors include his wife, Tommye; two sons, Brent Harrison and wife Beverly of Hereford and Jerry Harrison and wife Sandy of Amarillo; a daughter, Sharla Elliot and husband Rodney of Amarillo; a sister, Norene Pannell of Hereford; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to Brooke Harrison Ho Ho Memorial Fund, in care of Hereford Day Care, P.O. Box 806, Hereford, TX 79045.
The family will receive friends at 705 County Club Drive in Hereford.
