Clifford Elmo Hicks, 82, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle, with Dr. G.A. Roach, director of chaplain services at Northwest Texas Healthcare System, officiating.

Mr. Hicks was born in Hereford and had lived in Amarillo for more than 50 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He formerly owned and operated Elmo's Drive In and later was a machinist for Amarillo Hydraulic.

Mr. Hicks was a Methodist and a member of the Hereford Masonic Lodge No. 81 and the Khiva Temple.

He married Ethel Passmore in 1980 at Amarillo.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Chantell Hicks and Kimberley Stevens, both of Amarillo; two sisters, Ida Belle Hawkins of Plainview and Mary Beth Smits of Soap Lake, Wash.; two brothers, Don Hicks and Bob Hicks, both of Hereford; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The body will not be available for viewing.

*Obituary Velma M. Short Hicks
Velma Hicks, former resident of Hereford, died yesterday afternoon in St. Anthony's Hospital in Amarillo, at the age of 65. She was a resident of Amarillo.

Services will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. in Rose Chapel of Gililland Watson Funeral Home with the Rev. H.L. Thurston officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery under the direction of Gililland Watson Funeral Home.

She was born Feb. 5, 1914 in Nocona. She moved to Amarillo from Hereford in 1956. She married Elmo Hicks Feb. 11, 1947 in Clovis, N.W. She was a Methodist.

Survivors include her husband of Amarillo; a son, Sherman Matthew of Amarillo; a brother, George Short of Lawton, Okla., and two sisters, Mae Coffee of Hereford, and Opal Rouillard of Galveston.

Pallbearers will be Frank Ownbey, Joe Hill and Jay W. Teague, all of Amarillo; Ben Childers, George Jones and Fred Muller, all of Hereford.
