TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES, N.M. - Walter Lewis Jr., 80, formerly of Hereford, Texas, died Thursday, March 18, 2004 in Las Cruces.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church in Hereford with the Rev. Terry Cosby and Charles Good officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery in Hereford by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home.

Mr. Lewis was born Sept. 1, 1923, in Roswell, the son of Walter Sr. and Lora Lewis. He married his first wife, Dot, on Oct. 6, 1944, in California. He married Wanda Workman in November 1986 in Colorado.

Mr. Lewis was a veteran, having served in the Navy during World War II and was a rancher in Truth or Consequences.

He was preceded in death by his first wife in 1979; and a sister.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Wade Lewis of Hereford; a daughter, Linda Donais of Canyon; a brother, Earl Lewis of Hereford; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the Spicer Gripp Memorial Scholarship Fund, Box 951, Hereford, TX 79045.
