Pneumonia with its ensuing complications, was responsible for the death last Sunday of William Wells Locker, at the age of eighty-five years, six months and seventeen days. Mr. Locker had lived in this county since about 1900.
He was born in 1842 in Tiper county, Mississippi. He came here from Cook county, Texas, and has been active in the development of the city.
Mr. Locker was one of the few remaining Confederate veterans of the Civil War. During the war he was a member of the Eighth Tennessee regiment. He escaped uninjured from the famous battle of Manansas [sic] in which more than 1400 on each side were killed.
Rev. V.M. Cloyd conducted the funeral services, which were held Tuesday afternoon.
