T. C. Mathies Rites Are Held Sunday At Methodist Church

Friends and relatives paid last tribute Sunday afternoon to T.C. Mathies, 63, wheat farmer and real estate man, who died in the hospital here Friday night at 1l o'clock. Services were held at the First Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. M.B. Norwood, assisted by Rev. W.E. Barnes, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Interment was in West Park Cemetery.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Fannie Mathies; one son, E.L. Mathies; one daughter, Mrs. W.H. Dowell; one half-sister, Miss Addie Miner; and three grandchildren, Elmer Jr., Mary Jo, and Tommie Mathies, all of Hereford.

T.C. Mathies was born March 12, 1877 at Jackson, Miss. He came to Grayson county, Texas with his parents at the age of three. On January 27, 1897, he married Miss Fannie Dobbs at Sherman.

Later he moved to the South Plains. He came to Deaf Smith county in 1926 from Crosby county.

Mr. Mathies was a member of the Masonic Lodge, being a 32nd degree Mason and a charter member of the Khiva Temple in in [sic] Amarillo. He had held many offices in the order.

A number of out-of-town friends attended the services. These included Mrs. Mathies' sister, Mrs. E.L. Kelley and son and daughter of Lawton, Okla.; Mrs. James A. Cox and sons and families of Dimmitt; Mrs. Rosa Haswell, Mrs. Emerald Held and three children of Panhandle; Mr. and Mrs. Percy Lamar, Mr. and Mrs. John Harvey, and Lige Ellison, all of Crosbyton.

Pallbearers were Buford Palmer, James Harrison, Glen Snyder, A.O. Bell, J.B. Harlin, and Carl Mounts.
