Funeral services for Troy Matthews, 66, of 222 Asper will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. H.W. Bartlett officiating and Rev. Gene Tone assisting. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery under the direction of Rix Funeral Directors of Hereford.

Mr. Matthews died Friday evening in the Amarillo VA hospital. Born Sept. 20, 1916 in Eastland, he moved to Hereford three and one half years ago from Odessa.

He was a retired owner of several service stations and a veteran of World War II. A member of Temple Baptist Church, he married Jessie Bannier Nov. 30, 1940 in Stephenville.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Johnny of Hereford and Mike of Klondike, a daughter, Jo Lynne Mitchell of Hereford; seven grandchildren; five brpthers [sic], Alex of Weatherford, Jack of Wichita Falls, Jim of Odessa, Roy of Dublin, Ralph of Petersburg; and two sisters, Inex Needles of Fort Wroth [sic] and Roberta Kilgore of Stephenville.

HEREFORD - Jessie Matthews, 87, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009.

Celebration of life services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Hereford Heritage Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with the Rev. H.W. Bartlett officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery.

Jessie was born May 26, 1922, in Liberty to John and Lena Henderson Danner. She married the love of her life, Troy Matthews, on Nov. 30, 1940, in Stephenville. They moved to Hereford in 1980 from Odessa. Jessie was involved with Meals On Wheels and Hereford Senior Citizens Center for more than 20 years. She was a longtime member of Temple Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. Jessie loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild dearly and will be missed by her family and the host of many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Matthews, on Dec. 3, 1982.

Survivors include a daughter, JoLynn Mitchell and husband Albert of Amarillo; two sons, John L. Matthews and wife Kaye of Hereford and L. Michael "Mike" Matthews and wife Wanda of Montgomery; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

The family suggest memorials be to King's Manor Methodist Home, 400 Ranger Drive, Hereford,, TX 79045.
