HEREFORD - Henrietta Perrin "Kay" McWhorter, 93, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009.

Celebration of life services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Presbyterian Church in Hereford with the Rev. Joan Gaines, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery by Hereford Heritage Funeral Home.

Kay was born Aug. 27, 1915, in Wise County to Stephen and Julia Perrin. The family moved to Haskell, where she attended and graduated from Haskell High School.

After high school, she attended and earned a degree from North Texas State College. After college, she taught school and then became a home demonstration agent at Spur.

It was in Spur that she met D.C. McWhorter, and they were married in 1942. During World War II, she and D.C. lived on Army bases across Texas and the East Coast. Following World War II, the family moved to Hereford, where she raised three sons.

Kay also was active in several groups and clubs including the Calliopian Study Club. Kay's hobbies included bridge, sewing, visiting with friends, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Kay was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Hereford, where she taught Sunday school.

Kay was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, D.C. McWhorter; and four brothers, Julian, John, Paul and Woodrow Perrin.

Kay is survived by three sons, Steve McWhorter and wife Jenny and Ted McWhorter and wife Cherry, all of Hereford, and Dan McWhorter and wife May of Canyon; a brother, Jim Perrin and wife Nancy of Hereford; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
