*Obituary Lloyd Allen Newton
Funeral Services for Lloyd Newton, 86, a long-time Hereford resident and local businessman will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at First Baptist Church with the Reverend Joe Elam, pastor of Frio Baptist Church officiating. Internment will follow at West Park Cemetery under the care of Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. The family will receive guests from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Monday at Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. Mr. Newton passed away Friday, November 22, 2019.

Lloyd Allen Newton was born January 24, 1933 in Roosevelt, Oklahoma to Allen and Lilia Dickerson Newton. He attended schools in Holy Oak, Colorado and Roosevelt, Oklahoma. He graduated from Roosevelt High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He attained the rank of Corporal. Lloyd met and fell in love with Vera Marie Goodin, and they were married in Roosevelt on December 31, 1954. Lloyd and Vera moved to Hereford in 1955 and ran a custom harvesting business until 1976 that later became Newton Trucking until 1994 when he retired.

Lloyd played basketball while still in high school and loved watch basketball games. He also enjoyed going fishing, even though, he rarely had time. Lloyd was a member of the McDonald’s coffee club that meets every morning at 6:00 a.m. and was also a member of another McDonald’s Club that meets in the afternoon. He was a member of the Senior Citizens “Lunch Bunch”, he was a hard worker and was always willing to “make a good deal”. He donated a train set to the Senior Citizens Association that is always very popular with the younger people during the annual Senior Citizens “Festival of Trees”

The legacy he leaves are his daughter Ginger Harding and husband Ralph of Odessa, his son, Roy Newton and wife Jennifer of Hereford, one sister Christine Davis of Paducah, Kentucky, four grandsons, Eric Harding and wife Kim of League City, Texas, Mark Harding and wife Layla of Odessa, Brant Newton and Brendan Newton both of Lubbock, two great-grandchildren, Addison Harding of League City and Mason Harding of Odessa.

The family suggests memorials in Mr. Newton’s name be made to The Hereford Senior Citizens Association, 426 Ranger Drive, Hereford, Texas 79045 or First Baptist Church, 500 North Main, Hereford, Texas 79045

HEREFORD — Vera Newton, 80, of Hereford died Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Westgate Nursing Home in Hereford

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church in Hereford with Joe Shultz officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery in Hereford. Arrangements are by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home of Hereford.

Vera was born Nov. 29, 1931, in Roosevelt, Okla., to Renn and Thelma Goodin. Vera graduated from Roosevelt High School. After graduation, Vera remained in Roosevelt and worked for the local bank and enjoyed spoiling the younger children in the family. Vera soon met Lloyd Newton, and they were married in Roosevelt on Dec. 31, 1954.

Vera and Lloyd moved to Hereford in 1955 and ran a custom harvesting business that later became Newton Trucking. In addition to serving as bookkeeper for the family business, Vera was a jack-of-all-trades that included such jobs as taking home-cooked meals to the field to make sure everyone got a good meal a day, locating and picking up parts and supplies and being everyone's best friend on Friday when it came time for paychecks to be handed out.

Family was very important to Vera. She was very involved with her children and served as Camp Fire Leader, room mom and UIL math team sponsor. She also moved her parents from Roosevelt to Hereford to help care for them in their later days. One of her favorite roles was the role of doting Grandmother to her four grandsons. Vera and Lloyd were also active members of First Baptist Church of Hereford, Good Sam Trailer Club and the Hereford Senior Citizen Center.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her loving husband of 57 years, Lloyd; her children, Ginger Harding and husband Ralph of Odessa and Roy Newton and wife Jenifer of Hereford; four grandchildren, Eric Harding and wife Kim of League City, Mark Harding of Odessa, and Brant Newton and Brandon Newton, both of Hereford; a great-granddaughter, Addison Harding of League City; and a sister, Patsy Barry and husband Leo of Denham Springs, La.

The family suggests memorials be to Hereford Senior Citizen Center, 426 Ranger Drive, Hereford, TX 79045; or Kings Manor/Westgate, 400 Ranger Drive, Hereford, TX 79045.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
