Graveside Services for Edmund Stolle, 98, of Southland, will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, in Englewood Cemetery, under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service in Slaton.

Edmund was born March 16, 1909, near the central Texas town of Rosebud. He passed from this life Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008.

He was the second oldest of eight children born to parents Diedrich Stolle and Mary Dirndahl Stolle. They farmed in central Texas until the family moved to the South Plains in the Southland and Slaton areas where they acquired land and started again to farm.

On December 19, 1933, Edmund married Norma Esther Steinhauser. They had one son, Carlton, who is married to Sandra McCune Stolle. Edmund and Norma had one grandson, Brent, who is married to Erin Hassell Stolle, and one great-grandson, Dean.

Immediately following WWII, Edmund and Norma moved to Corpus Christi where Edmund worked in the home construction trade where post-War work was plentiful. Late in the 1960s Edmund and Norma left Corpus Christi to return to the Southland Community and resumed farming. Edmund was active in the farming community and an active member of Grace Lutheran Church of Slaton.

Edmund is also survived by his wife of 74 years, Norma; sisters, Hilda Nesmith and Ella Mae Stolle, both of Lubbock; and by one surviving brother, Roy Stolle of Shallowater. Edmund was predeceased by brothers, Walter, Arthur and Leo Stolle and sister, Pearl Stolle.

Edmund's life spanned two World Wars and the Great Depression and each helped to form the person he eventually became. Edmund was a man of strong faith and perhaps best regarded for his kindness and friendliness and his understanding of the importance of his family. He was very much one of the Greatest Generation, both wise and frugal just as many people of that era and background were to become.
