Services for J.H. "Punk" Thomas, 80, of Slaton will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Englunds Chapel with the Rev. Jack Thompson officiating.

Burial will be in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

He died Wednesday, May 22, 2002.

He was born Oct. 16, 1921, in Denton and moved northeast of Slaton with his family in 1927. He attended McClung and Roosevelt schools and began farming at age 13. He served in the Army from October 1942 until April 1945 in the European Theater in the 88th Infantry Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star.

He married Doris McCormick on Oct. 23, 1946, in Lubbock. He retired from farming in 1997. He served on the Roosevelt school board and was a member of the Slaton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6721.

A son, Jimmy, died in 1982.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Rex of Acuff, Tony of Ransom Canyon and Randy of Lazbuddie; a daughter, Janie Westbrook of Acuff; a brother, Glen "Bud" of Carterville, Ga.; a sister, Doris Barnes of Lubbock; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral service for Doris Marie Thomas, 82, of Acuff will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2011, in Englunds Chapel with Ray Perryman officiating. Internment will follow in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

Doris passed from this life July 24, 2011, at home. She was born Aug. 18, 1928, in Dickens County, Texas, and attended Slaton schools. She married James H. "Punk" Thomas on Oct. 23, 1946, in Lubbock. He preceded her in death on May 22, 2002.

Doris was also preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Wayne in August of 1982.

Doris was a homemaker and substituted as a teacher at Roosevelt ISD.

Her survivors include her children, Janie Westbrook of Acuff, Randy and wife Terry Thomas of Canyon, Rex and wife Tammy Thomas of Lubbock, and Tony Thomas of Ransom Canyon; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Patsy Boyd of Slaton, Texas, Shirley Roney of Alabama and Martha Haddock of Pearland, Texas; and two brothers, Jack McCormick of Michigan and Ronnie McCormick of Desdemona, Texas.
