Funeral services for Winnie Vaughn, 87, of Slaton will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2005, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Campbell and the Rev. Mike Schafer officiating. Interment will be in Englewood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

Winnie was born Sept. 9, 1917 in Denison. She passed from this life Wednesday, March 23, after a lengthy illness. Winnie married Leon C. Vaughn Dec. 5, 1936 in Colbert, Okla. The couple moved to Slaton in 1946. Winnie began Cinderella Beauty Salon and in 1976, she established and operated Cinderella Hair Academy in Lubbock until 1986. Leon preceded her in death April 26, 1995. She was a charter member of the Slaton's Chamber of Commerce, the Women's Division, the Railroad Heritage Association, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Eastern Star. She served as an advisor for the Rainbows for 34 years. Winnie was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church, where she was a choir member since the 1950's and a member of the Lydia Sunday School Class. She was a member of the National Cosmetology Association and had served as vice president of the Texas Cosmetology Association. In 1991, she traveled to Russia as an ambassador for the National Association from the state of Texas.

Survivors include her daughter, Charlotte Sartor of Slaton; sons, Bill Vaughn of Edgewood, N.M., and Jim Vaughn of Rogue River, Ore.; and a sister, Gracie Minter of Grand Prairie; eight grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
