Funeral services for Bennett Sawyer, age 45 years, five months and 13 days, were conducted at the Baptist church by Robert C. Jones, minister of the Church of Christ in Amarillo, at 3 o'clock Tuesday, January 24.
Bennett Sawyer was born August 9, 187, in Grayson county, and died January 22, 1933, of pneumonia after an illness of only a few days. In later life Mr. Sawyer lived in Oklahoma, coming to Hereford a few years ago, making this his home until his untimely departure.
He was married to Miss Jewell Dees on December 29, 1913. This union was blessed with five children, one child preceding the father in death on January 3, 1919. His father passed away March 26, 1912, and his mother on January 5, this year.
Surviving are his wife and four children, Trelma, Dorothy, George and Barbara Ann; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Crowell, Lone Grove, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Ruthie Patterson, Hereford; five brothers, Lemuel, Pottsboro; William M., Hereford; John Q., Jacksonville; Jesse H., Fort Lupton, Colo., and Logan E., Hereford.
Out of town relatives present for the funeral were Otto Dees, a brother of Mrs. Sawyer, and wife of Wirt, Okla.; Mrs. Cleora Miller, Ringling, Okla., and Leslie Jones, Chandler, Oklahoma.
Interment was made in West Park Cemetery under the direction of E.B. Black Funeral Directors. Pall bearers were A.I. Morrison, J.O. Miller, Burt France, Finis Wade, Leonard Knox and R.W. Carroll.
