HEREFORD - Earl V. Stagner, longtime Hereford resident and business owner, died July 12, 2011, at King's Manor Methodist Home in Hereford.

Viewing and visitation will be Thursday, July 14, 2011, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the First Baptist Church Parlor, 500 N. Main St.

The family will receive visitors at King's Manor Methodist Home Lamar Room on Thursday, July 14, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m.

A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2011, at First Baptist Church, 500 N. Main St., Hereford, with the Rev. Kyle Streun, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery. Military honors will be provided the U.S. Army. Bag Pipe services will be provided by John Brewer of Amarillo. Services are under the directions of Hereford Heritage Funeral Home, 411 E. Sixth St.

Earl was born Oct. 24, 1919, in Dimmitt to Joe and Jennie Easter Stagner. Lt. Col. Earl Stagner served his country in the U.S. Army Air Force as a B-17 pilot from May 1942 to February 1946. He served in the SW Pacific, Bismark Archipelago and Guadalcanal during WWII. He received several medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross. On May 3, 1945, he married Helen Joy (Farmer) Stagner in Sioux City, Iowa. They moved to Hereford in 1946.

Earl was owner/operator of Stagner-Orsborn Car Dealership for 24 years. Earl was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Hereford Masonic Lodge No. 849 A.F. & A.M. and the Hereford Chamber of Commerce.

Earl was preceded in death by his wife on Oct. 12, 1999; one son, Gary Stagner, on Dec. 8, 1999; his parents; four sisters, Della Stagner, Donnie Owen, Lottie Clark and Olive Lawrence; and four brothers, Pat Stagner, Price Stagner, Owen Stagner and Fred Stagner.

Survivors include one son, John Stagner and wife Candi of Canyon; one grandson, Tim Stagner and wife Tina; four granddaughters, Emily Stagner and husband Shaun, Candi Lance and husband Shawn, Disney Collier and husband Corey, and Codye Reystead and husband Brandon; and five great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to King's Manor Methodist Home, 400 Ranger Drive, Hereford, TX 79045; or a charity of choice.
