Johny E. Gooding, 72, of Seagraves, passed away on April 9, 2010 in Seminole.

Services will be at 2 p.m. on April 12, 2010 at the First Assembly of God Church with Pastor L.D. Hinson officiating. Pallbearers for Mr. Gooding will be his family and friends. Burial will be in the Gaines County Cemetery in Seagraves.

Johny was born in Lamesa to Clarence and Lola Mae Gooding on June 9, 1937. He graduated from Seagraves High School and remained in Seagraves the rest of his life. Johny married Martha Langehennig in Seagraves on Aug. 26, 1960. He was a member of the First Assembly of God.

He spent his life farming and serving as a pastor and evangelist. He pastored Brownfield Community Church and Faith Center in Seagraves. He loved playing cards and dominoes with the family. In 1955, Johny enlisted in the Navy, where he later received the Good Conduct Medal and was stationed on the U.S.S. Razorback Submarine.

Those left to cherish his memory is his wife, Martha of the home; one son, Johny C. Gooding and wife Georgeann of Seminole; two daughters, Velia Thompson and husband Casey of Lubbock and Liz Prestridge of Seminole. He leaves two grandchildren, Jeremy Thompson and wife Ashley and Tiffany Thompson, both of Lubbock.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Willie Lee Gooding.

Services are being provided by Mark A. Jones Funeral Directors in Seagraves.
