HEREFORD - Funeral services for Willie Evert "Shorty" Upton, 77, a longtime Deaf Smith County resident who died Sunday morning in Deaf Smith County Hospital, were to be at 2 p.m. today in the First Baptist Church.
Dr. Geral Mann, pastor, was to officiate. Burial in West Park Cemetery was to be by Gililland Funeral Home.
Mr. Upton lived on a farm 3 1/2 miles southwest of Hereford. He was born at Wichita Falls and moved to Deaf Smith County in 1920 from Floyd County. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
He married Miss Lillie Hughes on Jan. 4, 1914, in Foard County.
Survivors include his wife; a son, the Rev. Marvel Upton of Sacramento, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Juanita Coker of Hereford; two brothers, Houston of Petaluma, Calif., and Raymond of South Plains; five sisters, Mrs. Velma Soloman of Hereford, Mrs. Ora Harper of Corpus Christi, Mrs. Opal Ferguson of Amhurst, and Mrs. Helen Floyd and Mrs. Geraldine Wilhide, both of Plainview, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
