August 22, 1850-May 4, 1931
OBITUARY:
John L. ROPER, father of T. A. ROPER of the Roper Tire Shop, died Monday, May 4, at the home of his son in this city. The deceased was born August 22, 1850, at Arkadelphia, Clark county, Arkansas, and at the time of death was 80 years, 8 months and 12 days of age. Mr. ROPER had been in very poor health for the past few years. He lost his eyesight thirty-three years ago. Since last fall, he has been living in the home of his son here.
In young manhood he moved from his native state to Oklahoma, where he was married to Amanda GIBSON. To this union, seven children were born, Ivan of Darrouzett; Tex Roy, Hinton, Oklahoma; Mrs. Florence ASKINS, Florence, Colorado; Henry of Wewoka, Oklahoma; Thomas and Clifford of Perryton; and Floy of Oklahoma City. All were present with the exception of Mrs. ASKINS and Roy.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in this city on Wednesday afternoon, Rev. C. E. Fike officiating, with Rev. Silbey of the Baptist church assisting. The body was shipped to Follett for burial in the Fairmount cemetery.
