Rae Nell Best, 85, of Coahoma, died Monday September 8, 2014 at her daughter’s home in Grape Creek, Texas. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Myers & Smith Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, September 12, 2014 Coahoma Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church of Big Spring.
Rae Nell was born on April 8, 1929 in Otis Chalk, Texas to Doris and Alvin “A.C.” Hale. She married Valcus “Bill” Best in 1949. She loved her family and her church family. She was an active member and Elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Coahoma. Close to her heart was her longtime friend the late Frances Bartlett. Rae Nell worked for the Coahoma Independent School District for over 20 years. Rae Nell was active throughout the community as a member of several organizations including Presbyterial Women’s Work, Busy Bee Club, Breakfast Club, YMCA Friends and Big Spring Symphony.
She is survived by three sons: Alvin Best and wife Linda, Jo Best and wife Diana and John Best and wife Holly all of Coahoma; one daughter: Valrae Sides and husband Ralph of Sterling City; nine grandsons: Wendell Best, Jeremiah Best, Johnathan Best, James Best, Joshua Sides, Joseph Best and wife Donna, Aaron Sides, Benjamin Best and wife Megan and Jacob Sides; one granddaughter: Karen Reagan and husband Bo; fourteen great grandchildren: Nicole Best, Brittany Best, Ashley Best, Amber Jo Best, Morgan Phinney, Rouland Mayo, Valcus Best, Aubrey Best, Kenna Best, Jackson Best, Alex Reagan, Heartley Best, Emmalynn Best and Peyton Best; one brother: Ned Hale and wife Ona Jay; a number of nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents: A.C. and Doris Hale; her husband: Valcus E. “Bill” Best; one sister: Jo Dell Callahan; brother in law: Jerry Callahan; one grandson Matt K.S. Best and her grand daughter-in-law Deon Best. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons: Wendell Best, Jeremiah Best, Johnathan Best, James Best, Joshua Sides, Joseph Best, Aaron Sides, Benjamin Best, Jacob Sides and Bo Reagan. Arrangements are by Myers & Smith Funeral Home and Chapel. Please pay your respects online at www.myersandsmith.com
