Guadalupe "Lupe" Ortega, 84, of Big Spring died Friday, June 16, 2006, at Marcy House. Vigil Services will be at 7:00 PM Monday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Richard Regan officiating. Burial will be at Coahoma Cemetery.
She was born December 12, 1921, in Travis County, Texas to Maria and Lee Lopez. She was named after The Lady of Guadalupe, having been born on the day she appeared to Juan Diego in Mexico. She came to Howard County in 1949 from Austin. She was a cook at Terry's Drive-In for over 25 years. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
She is survived by 3 sons: Fred Zavala and his wife Jane of Mason, Juan Ortega and Pete Ortega and his wife Pat, all of Big Spring; 4 daughters: Cruz Moron of Coahoma, Lenora Padron of Sand Springs, Petra Rodriguez and her husband Fred and Connie Rodriguez, all of Big Spring; 25 grandchildren; 62 great grandchildren; and 11 great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jesus "Jessie" Ortega on December 7, 1997; 2 grandsons: Bobby Padron and Javier Velasquez; and 1 great grandson: Armando Rodriguez, III.
Pallbearers will be Michael Zavala, Jay Ortega, Philip Padron, Peter Padron, Kevin Rodriguez, Jason Ortega, Armando Rodriguez, and Ryan Ford.
The family will be at 912 Baylor.
Arrangements are by Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
