Larry Truman Pherigo, 88, of Coahoma, died on Thursday, September 9, 2010, in an Odessa hospice facility. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, September 12, 2010 at the Coahoma Church of Christ with Eddy Pitchford, minister, officiating. Interment will follow at Coahoma Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Saturday, September 11, 2010, at the funeral home.

He was born on December 9, 1921, in Denison, Texas to Melvin and Flora Pherigo. He married Janie Sue Beaird on January 20, 1945 in San Diego, California and she preceded him in death on November 10, 2005. They were married almost 61 years.

Truman graduated from Snyder High School. He was raised by farming parents and could build and repair about anything. He was a member of Coahoma Church of Christ where he served as a deacon. A veteran of World War II, he served as a metalsmith on the U.S.S. Matanikau in the Pacific Theatre. Truman was from the World War II generation of quiet gentleness, integrity, responsibility and hard work. He retired from the Fina Refinery in Big Spring after 30 years of service. He also co-owned Jane's Flowers & Gifts, and ran it as a ministry to others. Truman was involved in the Coahoma community and served as Grand Marshall of the Coahoma July 4th parade. Besides family, local school sports was his greatest joy. He never missed a game as his children, grandchildren and friends played. He followed the Coahoma girls softball team everywhere, even to their many state tournaments. Truman was proud that starting with his oldest son, Larry, there has been a descendant of his in the Coahoma schools for 48 years. "Papago" loved his family and friends and no matter what the occasion, innertubing down the river, a good Rangers' baseball game, playing with the grandkids, or a challenging game of Texas 42, he was always there enjoying the fun and patiently teaching others.

He had many sorrows, such as being preceded in death by his beloved wife; one son, Dean Perigo; two grandchildren, Allan Pherigo and D'Ann Dick; one brother, Tommy Pherigo; three sisters, Dola Wood, Gay Nell Greenfield and Celeta Ainsworth and his parents.

Survivors include five sons, Larry Pherigo and wife, Judy, Bobby Pherigo, Chuck Pherigo, and Keith Pherigo all of Coahoma and Steven Pherigo and wife, Jenny of Big Spring; one daughter, Linda Denton and husband, Steve of Midland; one sister, Mary McCarter of Snyder; one brother, Wayne Pherigo and wife, Jeanie of Big Spring; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bobby and Carla Beaird of Lubbock; 14 grandchildren, Denette Tennell and Tony; Melissa Neves, Dellamy Renck and Mike; Leah Gordon and Brian; Leslie Pherigo; Andra Allan and Jody; Matthew Neves; Greg Pherigo; Kelley Pherigo and Scott; Jemme Svoboda and Adam; Laura Pherigo; Fara Pherigo and Richard; Wesley Pherigo and Mindi; and Erica Pherigo and 12 great grandchildren, Elliot, Eric, Evan, Nikki, Aden, Brylea, Alexis, Ciera, Brynlea, Kyler, Mason and Luke.
