Charles Reid (Nee Allen) Poisall, 93, of Katy, formerly of Big Spring died Monday, May 27, 2013, at his residence. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Coahoma Cemetery.

He was born May 2, 1920, in Hillsboro, Texas, to Carrie (Reid) and Charles C. Allen. He married Mary E. Sperry and she preceded him in death Sept. 28, 2004.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was a journalist public affairs officer for the Army. He moved to Big Spring from New Jersey and was a resident here for more than 25 years. He moved to Houston in 2005 and was a Protestant.

He was a member of the White Sands Flying Club, Civil Air Patrol, V.F.W., Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association, WSPG and WSMR Pioneer Club, 483rd Bomb Group Association, Harley Owners Group, Big Spring Road Riders, Kiwanis Club, Sand Springs Church of Christ, Anderson Street Church of Christ, Confederate Air Force, Pecos Army Flying School Association and the WSMR Flying Club.

He is survived by one daughter, Lynn Poisall Biel and husband Richard of Houston; one son, Charles Poisall of Katy; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Mary Elizabeth Sperry Poisall, 81, of Big Spring, Texas died Tuesday morning, September 28, 2004, at the home of her daughter, Lynn P. Biel in Houston, after a long illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Friday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Pastor Allen Green, of North Gate Christian Center of Houston, officiating. Music will be furnished by Austin C. Biel, and the eulogy by Tammi Gonzales, grandchildren of Mary E. and Charles R. Poisall. Burial will follow at the Coahoma Cemetery.

She was born February 2, 1923, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Edward E. Sperry and Lura M. Scanland Sperry. Mary was a 1941 graduate of Classen High School and later graduate of Blackwood School of Business, Oklahoma City. She was married to Charles R. Poisall, USAAF, in Glendale, California, on January 6, 1945. The couple lived in Idaho, Oklahoma, and Texas. The Poisalls lived in Las Cruces, New Mexico, for 25 years while Charles R. Poisall was employed at the White Sands Missile Range. They moved to New Jersey in 1977. They moved to Big Spring in 1980, upon his retirement from government service. Mary was a long time member of the Sand Springs Church of Christ. She also was a life long member of the Preceptor Delta Chapter, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority of Las Cruces. Mary always had a kind word for everyone and a helping hand. Her motto in life was "Did you pray about it?" She had a deep abiding Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. She believed in taking every matter to the Lord in Prayer. She had many friends who depended on her strength and guidance. Mary was a wonderful wife and mother. As a younger woman she was a faithful employee, working as an accountant for many years.

She is survived by her husband: Charles R. Poisall of Big Spring; her daughter: Lynn P. Biel and her husband Richard C. Biel of Houston; her son: Charles E. Poisall and his wife Joyce Bozeman Poisall of Coleman; granddaughter: Tammi Biel Gonzales of Houston; and grandson: Austin C. Biel of Houston. Also surviving are seven great granddaughters and four great grandsons: Rebekah Biel, Melody Biel, Victoria Gonzales, Amanda Gonzales, Emily Henderson, Abigail Henderson, Sophia Gonzales, Adrian Gonzales, Justin Gonzales, Simon Gonzales and Tenor Biel. Also surviving are life long friends in Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three aunts, five uncles and several cousins. Pallbearers will be Pat Robinson, Jim Self, Dennis Greenfield, Charles Wright, Terry Kessler and Ralph Angelo. Honorary Pallbearers will be Coit Walker, Richard Biel, Jerry Yarbrough, Thomas Covington and Billy Reed. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Inhome Care Inc., 1104 Scurry, Big Spring, Texas 79720; Odyssey Healthcare, 1003 E. FM 700, Big Spring, Texas 79720; Sand Springs Church of Christ, 105 Spring Creek Road, Big Spring, Texas 79720. Arrangements are by Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
