B.J. Kendrick was born in Georgia, the son of a planter. He received the usual amount of local schooling and at age 21 he married and began a life for himself as a farmer, continuing this until the Civil War.
In Jan. 1862 he organized Co. F. 51st GA Infantry, with himself as Captain, and this Company saw a great amount of Fiery combat.
At the wars end he returned to his home and in Oct. 1865, started out for TX.
He settled first in Washington Co. on the Brazos. In the Fall of 1869 he purchased 320 acres of Unimproved land in McLennan County, and moved to Waco in 1870. The lumber for his residence he hauled from Calvert, some 60 miles.
His life in this community was always active and for the common good , and brought dignity and credit to the general vocation of the farmer.
