Odessa Smith, 83, of Forsan died Monday, Aug. 28, 2006, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006, at the Coahoma Church of Christ with Jim Alexander, officiating. Interment will follow at the Coahoma Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Aug 29, 2006, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.

Odessa was born Sept. 17, 1922, to Claude Lee and Mattie Ethel Dodson in Dawson County. She came to Howard County as a small child. She married Frank P. Smith Dec. 15, 1945, in Ranger. He preceded her in death June 10, 1988. She was a member of the Coahoma Church of Christ. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by a daughter, Rita Powell and husband, Jeff of Forsan; three grandchildren, Justin White and wife, Ashley of San Angelo, Blake White of Abilene, and Lindsey Heckler of Forsan; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Day; two sister, Mabel Goldman and Helen King; four brothers, Dan Dodson, Fred Dodson, Virgil Dodson, Edgar Dodson; and one grandson Jody Day. Pallbearers will be Earl King, Gerald King, Gerald King Jr., Manuel Martinez Jr., Jerod Flohr, and Bobby Dodson. Arrangements are by Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
