Long-time Big Spring resident, Lucy Dale Bonner, died February 10, 2008. Funeral services are planned for Thursday, February 14, 2008, at 10:30 AM, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel in Big Spring, with the Revs. Walter Reed, Jr. and Jim Wright, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive visitors on Wednesday evening, February 13, 2008 from 6:00 to 7:00 PM, at the funeral home.

Lucy was born in Austin, Texas, on November 6, 1927, to E.O. and Esther Williams, moving to Dallas at a young age and graduating from Sunset High School.

Her life-long vocation was the care and welfare of her family, followed by a career as an educator -- 20 years in the Big Spring Independent School District as a science teacher. She also taught geology and family science courses at Howard College. Lucy earned her bachelor's degree from North Texas State College (now the University of North Texas) in Denton and a Master's degree from Sul Ross University in Alpine.

Lucy leaves a living and loving legacy in her family -- husband of 59 years, Dr. Ross Wayne Bonner, whom she married on August 28, 1948; daughter, Gwynn Jump and her husband, Dennis, of Denton; son -- Greg Bonner of California; daughter-in-law, Sabrina Bonner of Mineral Wells, TX; and 4 grandchildren -- Meredith Jump of Chicago, IL, Hilary Jump of McKinney, TX, Sheena Bonner of California, and Cody Bonner of Arizona -- as well as a myraid of friendships she developed throughout her lifetime. She is also survived by one sister, Mary Ruble, of San Antonio.

In recent years, Lucy served on the local board of the American Cancer Society, taking responsiblity for acknowledging memorials and honorariums. Locally, she belonged to the Retired Teachers' Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, First United Methodist Church of Big Spring and its Epworth Sunday School Class, and the Hyperion Club. Lucy was charter member of the honor society for food science majors at North Texas State College -- Phi Upsilon Omicron.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, % Carolyn Brooks, P.O. Box 2121, Big Spring, Texas 79721-2121 or to the American Heart Association, 3205 W. Cuthbert, Ste A-5, Midland, Texas 79701.
