William A. "Bill" Bonner, Jr., 68, of Austin, formerly of Big Spring, died Saturday, February 11, 2012, in Big Spring. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Trinity Memorial Park with Chaplain Cherise Felty, officiating. Vietnam Veteran Memorial Service will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 26, 2012, at Camp Mabry Chapel in Austin.

He was born July 27, 1943 in Forth Worth, Texas.

He graduated from Big Spring High School in 1961. After completing high school, Bill realized he needed to obtain a formal education in 1963 while "digging ditches" for Pioneer Natural Gas Company. To enable him to get the GI Bill to complete his education, from 1966 to 1970, Bill completed three tours in the Vietnam Combat Zone as a Radarman 2nd Class aboard the ammunition ship USS Mount Katmai (AE-16).

After the Navy, Bill earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas in August, 1972.

After college, he obtained accounting experience working as an audit examiner for the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, the U.S. Air Force Audit Agency, U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare Audit Agency, and as an Internal Revenue Agent for IRS from 1973 through 1978. In late 1978, Bill established a Certified Public Accounting Firm in Austin, Texas. He spent over 33 years rendering professional services, specializing in defending clients against Internal Revenue Service. During this period, the firm served clients located throughout the United States, Australia, England, Italy, Iran, Mexico and Puerto Rico. He spent substantial time providing pro-bono services to those who could not otherwise afford to defend themselves against IRS.

Bill was baptized in the First Christian Church of Big Spring and was a member of the Big Spring Chapter of DeMolay. He was a member of Big Spring Masonic Lodge #1340, the Austin Scottish Rite, and Ben Hur Shrine Temple.

Bill is survived by his cousin Glynda Jones and her husband Grady of Lampasas and one step-son Lee Eubanks of Austin, his loving schnauzer Austin B and a few very special friends.

William A. Bonner, Bill's father, a lifelong resident of Big Spring preceded him in death in 1963 and his mother Gail Whitney Bonner Legg on February 7, 2012.
