Abilene, Texas
Garland H. Briden , 71 , of Big Spring, a breakman / conductor for
Texas Pacific Railroad for 30 years, died at 6:07 PM Tuesday at a
local hospital after a long illness.. Services will be at 2 PM Friday
at the Nalley – Pickle Funeral Home.
The Rev. Cecil Hardaway, retired Methodist minister, will officiate .
Burial will be in the Trinity Memorial Park.
Born September 30, 1910, in Stephens County, he married Nelva
Noland at Breckenridge. He had lived at Big Spring since 1944 and
had been the Secretary / treasurer of the United Transportation Union
for many years.. He retired from Texas Pacific Railroad in 1975 …. He had
taught a men's Bible class at Wesley United Methodist Church for 32 years.
Survivors include his wife , a son, Kenneth of San Jose, California , a daughter,
Mrs. Don (Gretchen) Zurek of Phoenix, Arizona ; two brothers, Cloid and
Harold, both of Dallas and seven grandchildren .
Pallbearers will be Luther Coleman, A. D. Meador, R. J. Alexander, Nile
Bailey, Ray Anderson, Claude Van Vleet, Tommie Loveless and Cecil Hansen.
