Abilene, Texas

Nelva Joyce Noland Briden , 78 , who worked as the director of
nursing at the Big Spring State Hospital for many years before
retiring in 1975, died Thursday at her daughters home in
Phoenix, Arizona.

Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Thursday in the Trinity
Memorial Park with Kenneth Briden and Cecil Hardaway officiating,
directed by Nalley – Pickle and Welch Funeral Home.

Mrs. Briden was born in Eureka and moved to Big Spring in 1944
from Hobbs, New Mexico.. She was involved with the parent,
teachers and band Booster organizations, and sponsorship of the
Rainbow Girls.. She was a member of the Laura B. Hart Chapter No. 67,
Order of the Eastern Star. She was a longtime member of the Wesley
First United Methodist Church and was, at the time of her death, a
member of the First United Methodist Church.. She was the widow of
Garland Briden, whom she married in 1935 in Jacksboro.

Survivors include one son, Kenneth Briden of San Jose, California ; one
daughter, Gretchen Zurek of Phoenix, Arizona ; one brother, Cleo
Noland of Hurst ; three sisters, Irene Hutchins of San Angelo, Billie
Judkins of Breckenridge and Floy Laws of Anson ; seven grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6:30 – 8:30 PM in the funeral home.
