Leonard Dale "Pete" Carey, 86, of Big Spring, died on Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at his residence. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2007 at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with Rev. Doug Shelley, pastor of Eastside Baptist Church, officiating.

He was born on May 14, 1921, in Sidney, Ohio and married Helen Merle Belcher on September 5, 1944 in Big Spring, Texas. She preceded him in death on January 27, 1991.

Leonard had lived in Big Spring for over 30 years.

He worked at the Big Spring State Hospital as a painter.

He loved to camp, fish, bowl and golf.

He was a Baptist and served in the United States Army.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Barbara Carey of Big Spring; one daughter, Marie Watkins of Big Spring; one brother, Clarence "Dutch" Carey of Sidney, Ohio; four grandchildren including Tammie and Allen Buckles of Midland, Robert Dale and Tracy Carey of Odessa, and Tressa and Sean Bailey of Big Spring; and five great grandchildren, James Allen Buckles, Jordan Michael Wayne Bailey, Josh and C.J. Bigelow and Chloe Carey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters.
