KNOX CITY, TX - Billy Young, Sr.,
Billy Geane Young, Sr. “Big Daddy”, 83, of Knox City, Texas passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016 at his residence after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Liberty Community Church of God In Christ in Knox City, Texas with Pastor Gene Ward officiating. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Knox City Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. A wake is planned for Thursday evening, April 21, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home located at 210 Ave., Knox City, Texas.

Billy Young Sr., was born July 8, 1932 in Detroit, Texas. He lived in Denver, Colorado for 40 years, where he worked and retired from Globe U.S. Auto Glass Center. In 1990 he was awarded the Millionaires Club Award in recognition for surpassing over two million dollars in sales. He became a member of Antioch Church of God In Christ of Denver, Colorado and later became a member of Evangelist Temple Church of God In Christ where he gave his life to the Lord. Billy was baptized in 1993 and became a member of the Usher Board and brotherhood, but, most of all he was faithful to the church.

He met Patricia Young in June and they were married in July 20, 1992. He moved to Knox City in 1994 and became a member of Liberty Community Church of God In Christ under Pastor Leon Ward in 1995. In 1997 he was appointed YPWW President and also was ordained as a deacon on October 7, 1997. He was appointed as a Sunday School Superintendent under Pastor Gene Ward. He was also an asset to the Building of Liberty Fellowship Hall. In 1994 and 1995 he opened up his “dream” B & P Mini Mart, which included laundry mat, doughnut shop, and many other businesses. One in particular was a beauty shop. He was well known for his bar-b-que and Billy burgers. He provided jobs for different ones in the community. He retired from B & P Bar-b-que in 2014. He will be so missed in the community.

Billy is survived by his wife of 24 years, Patricia Young; three sons, Dempsey Ray Young and wife Toni of Denver, Colorado, Billy Geane Young, Jr., of Kansas City and Gene Ward and wife Doris of Knox City, Texas; three daughters, Beverly Arrington of San Antonio, Texas, Felica Ann Logan and husband Paul of Grand Prairie, Texas and Olivia Rene Cunningham and husband Barry of Cary, North Carolina; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; A very special first cousin, Edler Charles Turner and also his best friend and brother-in-law Lee Crothers “Uncle Bubba”.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John Young and Mary Young.
