R. J. "June" Cate, 85, of Big Spring, died on Thursday, July 23, 2009, at his residence.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, July 27, 2009 at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.

He was born on March 7, 1924, in Spur, Texas and married Gladene Fields.

He had worked for Olden Independent School as a maintenance man and then for Lester Humphrey Pest Control as an exterminator.

June enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding on his scooter picking up cans.

He served 3 years in the United States Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Gladene Fields Cate of Big Spring, one daughter and son-in-law, Laverne and Bobby Boyett of Olden; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Terri Cate of Big Spring; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one brother, Jerrell Cate of Eastland; and two sisters, Billie Dupuy of Snyder and Gwinn Collins of Azle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Betty Cate; one son Glenn Cate; one sister and six brothers.

Gladene Fields Cate, 91, of Olden, formerly of Big Spring, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2021.

Graveside services will be 1:00 PM Friday, March 5, 2021, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park.

She was born August 2, 1929, in Big Spring to Robert and Tryphena Walters Fields.

She married Rollen J. "June" Cate and he preceded her in death July 23, 2009.

Gladene was a longtime resident of Big Spring and had worked for Big Spring ISD in the high school cafeteria for over 20 years.

She moved to Olden in 2015.

Survivors include her daughter, Laverne Boyett of Olden; her son, Larry Cate and wife, Terri, of Lake Leon; nine grandchildren, Shannon Scarlett and wife, Jannet, Sonia Hicks and husband, Cliff, Richard Neefe and wife, Wendy, Teria Cate, Dana Cate and husband, Shane Shults, Bubba Cate and wife, LaRea, Jennifer Cate, Kevin Cate and Erica Cate; 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Glenn Cate; and eight brothers and sisters.
