*Obituary
Olga DeAnda Chávez, a lifelong resident of Big Spring, passed away on January 4, 2012, in the loving care of family and friends. She courageously fought a battle with cancer for 10 months.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 7th at the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. A vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM Friday at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.

Olga was born on May 2, 1941, to Gumecindo (Chindo) and Amanda DeAnda. She attended Big Spring schools and graduated from Big Spring High School in 1959. She worked for Sears and Roebuck after graduation and retired from the Big Spring State Hospital. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a supporter of the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

Olga was very active and had many friends in the community. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. In her retirement, she met a wonderful group of new friends and enjoyed traveling. In recent years, she traveled to Italy where she visited the Vatican. She took a Caribbean cruise with family and friends to Cozumel, Cayman Islands and Jamaica. She also traveled to different parts of Mexico. She took her last trip to South Padre Island, where she spent a week in the warm company of friends.

A source of cheer and inspiration to her family and friends, Olga was a kind and giving spirit.

She is survived by her children, Cathy Chávez, Tony Chávez, Danny Chávez and wife, Janette, Grace Duncan and husband, Todd, Garry Chávez and girlfriend, Belinda Mendez, and Paul Chávez; her brother Albert DeAnda and wife, Margie; sister-in-law Pat DeAnda; eight grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gumecindo and Amanda DeAnda, and her brothers Benjamin DeAnda and Ismael DeAnda.
