Silas T. "Si" Cheatheam, Jr., 88, of Big Spring died Friday, February 15, 2008, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Memorial Park with Rev. Mike Couch officiating.

Si was born March 9, 1919, in Childress County, Texas, to Virginia and Silas Cheatheam, Sr.

He began work in civil service before World War II, working in Panama.

Si served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

After the war, he resumed his work at Panama. Si was later at Amarillo Air Force Base, and transferred to Webb Air Force Base where he was an aircraft repair shop foreman until the base closed in 1978.

He had lived in Big Spring for over 50 years, and was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge.

Si married Frances Ann Ivey, June 27, 1944, in Beaumont, Texas.

He is survived by his wife Ann of Big Spring; two grandchildren: Tawnya Cheatheam of Seoul, Korea, and John Ryan Miller of El Paso; one sister: Virginia Spain of Lubbock; a number of nieces and nephews; and very special friends: Daniel and Alvina Arguello and their family of Big Spring.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son: Silas Terry Cheatheam, III; and his daughter: Cindy Lee Miller.

The family suggests memorials to Gideons International, Big Spring Camp #U42060, Big Spring, Texas.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Lamun Lusk Sanchez Texas Veterans Home, and Scenic Mountain Medical Center for their care and kindness, and a special thanks to Dr. Kuprianowicz.
