Husband of Wanda Maxine Smith. They were married on December 24, 1939 in Big Spring, Howard County, Texas.

Carl Coleman, 94, of Big Spring, died on Monday, December 17, 2007, in a local nursing home.
He was born on November 7, 1913, in Philcampbell, Alabama and married Maxine Smith on December 24, 1939 in Big Spring, Texas.
Carl played football at Abilene Christian College and was captain of the team in 1938.
He came to big Spring in 1939 as an Assistant Coach and then moved away for ten years coaching in Andrews, McCamey, Stamford, and Pecos, returning to Big Spring in 1949 as Head Coach and Athletic Director. He served in this capacity until 1955 when he joined his father-in-law in Smith & Coleman Oil Company. He bought the business from him and owned and operated it until he sold it in 1982.
While he was coaching he served as a director of the Texas High School Coaches Association for two years.
Carl also farmed for many years.
He was a member of 14th & Main Church of Christ having served as a deacon for over 20 years.
He was honored at Abilene Christian University by being named to the Hall of Fame and also had an athletic meeting room named after him.
He also was honored by being inducted into the Big Spring High School Hall of Fame.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine Coleman of Big Spring; three daughters, Kay Wilson, Sue Lane and her husband, Kenneth, all of Big Spring, Gayle Butts and her husband, Howard of Midland; seven grandchildren, D'Carlon Mata of Big Spring, Tony Lane of Abilene, Wendi Jenkins and her husband, Richard of Big Spring, Kenye Kay Tranum and her husband, Derek, Devin Butts, Britton Butts, and Brennan Butts all of Midland; nine great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Natalie Peurifoy and Eadie Faulkner; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dolores Gonzales and Eliseo Torres.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Elizabeth Coleman; and nine brothers and sisters.
