Clifford O. Youngquist passed away Sunday, Feb. 19 2012. Friends and family will gather to celebrate his 78 years of life on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at 10 a.m. Services will be located at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, 6025 82nd Street. Interment with military honors will follow at Silverton Cemetery at 3 p.m. Visitation with family and friends will be hosted by Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers on Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Clifford was born on March 19, 1933, in Elgin to the late Frank and Esther Youngquist. Clifford joined the U.S. Army in 1950 as an infantry soldier, making the beachhead landing at Inchon, Korea, and was at the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir in North Korea.

After the war, Clifford married Helen Rose Vaughan on Dec. 17, 1954, in Silverton. Clifford joined the U.S. Navy in July 1955, and served aboard the U.S.N.S. General Simon B. Buckner as a supply clerk until July of 1959. After his military service, he was a retail salesman for Montgomery Ward, T.V. Lab & Sears. He became a business owner of Carpet City, Carpet Mart, Cliff's TV & Appliance, and Sunshine Laundry & Dry Cleaners. In 1970, he became a retail auto salesman for Mac's Olds Pontiac GMC in Slaton, where he worked for 26 years before retiring in 1996. Clifford enjoyed watching football, playing guitar, and listening to country music, but more than anything, he loved being a husband, father and grandfather.

Those left to cherish his many memories are his wife of 57 years, Helen; their children, Robert Youngquist and wife Robbie, Larita Barkley and husband Dennis, Gaylon Youngquist and wife Sharla, and Glenda Nalle and husband John; sister, Ethel Butler; brother, Vernon Youngquist; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Memorial donations in honor of Clifford may be made to the Silverton Cemetery Association or The American Heart Association.
