*Obituary
Graveside services for Benjamin Leroy Roberson, age 79 of Seminole, Texas, will be held Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Gaines County Cemetery with Pastor Vance Thomas officiating. All services are under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home of Seminole.

Mr. Roberson was born in San Angelo, Texas on October 4, 1943 to Maggie Jane (Rasco) and Benjamin Franklin Roberson. He married the love of his life, Shirley Harris, on December 25, 2005. Known as Benjie by family, Ben by friends, and Robbie by Army buddies, he served with the 29th Signal Battalion, spending two years in France. He worked most of his life in agriculture, from picking cotton as a child in Texas to harvesting fruit in California. He also worked assembling aircraft and worked in maintenance and parking with Notre Dame High School in Riverside, California. After almost 50 years in Riverside, poor health brought Benjie and Shirley back to be with family, especially Earnie and Vickie Taylor, in Seminole.

He attended school in Seminole, completed his GED while serving in France and attended college in Riverside, California. While life kept him from completing a degree, he was a lifelong learner. He liked to study math, religions and Spanish. He learned Spanish from his fellow agricultural workers, and loved to listen to Mexican music, especially Vicente Fernandez. He practiced his fluency by watching novellas, studied the grammar and writing, and visited with friends. He's the family member who tried to meet and keep in contact with his eleven brothers and sisters, along with a very large number of nephews and nieces. His kind nature, sense of humor and non-judgmental, steadfast presence will continue to be cherished.

Benjamin Roberson passed away at Shinnery Oaks Nursing Home in Denver City, Texas Tuesday, December 13, 2022. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Jean Roberson; four brothers, Gerald, Bill, Eddie Joe and Dalton Roberson; six sisters, Betty Taylor, Eunice Huett, Helen Phillips, Yvonne Cooper, Dot Lauderdale, and Vergie Cooper; and numerous other family members. He is survived by one sister, Sheila Wiltse of Del Rio, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Sandy Roberson Chavez of Del Rio, Texas, and Zoey Roosevelt of San Diego, and many family and friends.
