J. B. Cushing was born in Ennis, Texas on January 7, 1923 to Joe and Beulah Cushing. He passed from this life on September 20, 2007 at the age of 84 years.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie Cushing of Saginaw, Texas; one daughter, Sandy McDonald and her husband, Don of Ruidoso, New Mexico; one son, Joe Cushing and his wife, Kathy of Saginaw, Texas; two step-children, Austin Hale of Chicago, Illinois and Toni Stovall of Odessa, Texas. Surviving grandchildren are Kevin McDonald and his wife, Nathalie of Houston, Texas, Greg McDonald and his wife, Apryl of Midland, Texas, Nicole Blythe and her husband, Chance of Waxahachie, Texas, Toby Cushing and his wife, D'Anne of Denver, Colorado, Seth Stovall and his wife, Megan of Westbrook, Texas, Erin Stovall of Colorado City, Texas, Brian Murff and his wife, Shelly of Carthage, Texas and Coy Murff of Carthage, Texas; and 7 great grandchildren, and a host of friends. J.B. was affectionately known to his grandchildren and great grandchildren as "Granddaddy".

J.B. Cushing married Freda Hatcher October 22, 1942.

J.B. served honorably in the United States Army during World War II. He spent the majority of his military career in action in the European Theater. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Upon honorable discharge from military service J.B. completed his education and spent a lifetime involved in teaching school and serving in school administration. J.B. and his family taught or were associated with the Ozona, San Angelo Lakeview, Zephyr, Loraine, and Big Spring School Districts during his career. He had a great love for all of his students, teachers, and colleagues, and was known for his constant good humor. J.B. retired from the Big Spring Independent School System in 1985.

J.B. married Bonnie Hale of Big Spring, Texas on September 18, 1999. They resided in Big Spring until 2004 when they moved to Saginaw, Texas.

J.B. was a member of the 14th and Main Church of Christ in Big Spring, Texas and attended the Lake Worth Church of Christ in the Saginaw area. J.B.'s positive Christian influence will be missed by his family. We were blessed with a 'great' granddaddy.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 22, 2007 at Nalley-Pickle Rosewood Chapel with Royce Clay and Rick Cunningham, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

Pallbearers are Austin Hale, Seth Stovall, Toby Cushing, Kevin McDonald, Greg McDonald, Chance Blythe, and Ben Hatcher.
