Nathan served in the Indian Wars. He enlisted in Tampa Bay, Florida on January 10, 1856 in Capt A D Johnson's company as a private and served until July 10, 1856. He also served under Capt Dick Turner and Robert Miller-six months as a scout on boats along the coast. Served under Capt Van Bucklin as a teamaster in the Quartermaster Dept until the close of the war in 1858
