Wanda Faye McCrury, 80 years of age, died Friday, January 14, 2011 at Parks Methodist Care Center in Odessa, Texas.
She was born May 12, 1930 in Quitman, Texas to Arthur Puckett and Ida May "Walker" Puckett. She attended Garland High School where she later met and married Charlie "RED" McCrury, Jr. on September 30, 1946. Wanda was a devoted wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother, and also because of her love for children she was a volunteer at Cavazos Elementary School for 10 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, her parents, one brother Eldred Puckett, daughter Genova Elaine McCrury and one great-granddaughter Taylor Lund. She is survived by sons, Michael, Terry and wife Kim, Tommy and wife Cheryl McCrury, all of Odessa; daughters, Margie and husband Jesse Martinez of Wills Point, TX, Susan McCrury of Garland, TX, Kaye and husband Gerald Scott of Odessa, TX, Donna and husband Jimmy Wallace of Odessa, TX.; brother Linard Puckett of Sachse, TX; sisters, Margaret Kirby of Kaufman, TX, and Novis Lemon of Terrell, TX; sister-in-laws Patsy Jumper of Andrews, TX, Maxine Johnson of Carlsbad, NM, and Bonnie McCrury of Lexington, TN.
She had 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
She will always be remembered as a strong but loving person who lived her life devoted to her family, church, and friends. She was loved and cherished by her husband and children and will be dearly missed by those who came in contact with her.
A special thank you to her daughters-in-law Cheryl and Kim McCrury, and daughter Donna Wallace for all the love and devotion to her care in the last months of her life. A special note of gratitude to all the caring staff at Parks Methodist Care Center and to Home Hospice for their dedication and assistance. Also, a very special thank you to Martha Carter for being such a gracious, loving, caring friend and roommate.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jay Martinez, Brandon Mangus, Charlie Mangus, Casey Scott, Christopher McCrury, Matthew McCrury, Jacob Crumpton and Avery McCrury.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial donations be made to Sunset Heights Baptist Church, 2401 W. 16th St., Odessa, Texas 79763
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Frank Wilson Funeral Home, 4635 Oakwood Dr, Odessa, TX.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, January 17, 2011 at Sunset Heights Baptist Church and burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday, January 17, 2011 in Andrews Cemetery in Andrews.
