HEREFORD - Richard "Rick" Cooper, 57, died Sunday, May 15, 2005, in Amarillo.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Darren Skinner officiating. Burial will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home.
Mr. Cooper was born Feb. 9, 1948, in Tucumcari, N.M., the son of Richard and Wanda Cooper. He married Peggy Owen on Jan. 3, 1976, in Lubbock. He was a veteran, having served in the Army with the Central Strike Command in Tampa, Fla. Mr. Cooper retired with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. after 28 years of service. He also served as a member of the administrative board of directors of First United Methodist Church as well as a member of Hereford Camp Fire Girls board of directors for many years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Cooper in 1992; and a brother, David Cooper in 1974.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Wanda Cooper of Carlsbad, N.M.; a son, Richard Owen Cooper and wife, Cynthia, of Hereford; two daughters, Kathleen Cooper of Tacoma, Wash., and Elizabeth Lee Cooper of Austin; a brother, Michael Cooper and wife, Dorinda, of Lubbock; a sister, Dr. Judy Cooper Williams of Carlsbad; and two grandchildren, Alexandria A. Cooper and Emma Lynn Cooper, both of Hereford.
The family suggests memorials be to Spirit Wind Youth Choir at St. Lukes United Methodist Church, 3011 W. Kansas St., Midland, TX 79701; or First United Methodist Church, 501 N. Main St., Hereford, TX 79045.
