Jeannette Middleton Vanstory, 87, went to be with her Lord on Thursday morning, February 16, 2006.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, February 20, at W. W. Rix Chapel with Rev. John Ballard, officiating. Burial will be in City of Lubbock Cemetery with arrangements by Rix Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Vanstory was born June 6, 1918 to Robert and May Middleton, in Eastland County, Texas. The family moved to Shallowater in 1924 where she graduated from Shallowater High School in 1935. She married J. W. (Bill) Vanstory on June 9, 1935. They raised two sons on their farm at New Deal, Texas, until 1976, when they moved to Lubbock. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1985.

She graduated from Draughn's Business College in Lubbock. She was bookkeeper at New Deal Gin and executive secretary/bookkeeper at the Southwest Textiles in Abernathy. She also worked in farm reconstitutions at the Lubbock County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service until her retirement in 1983.

She was a member of New Deal Baptist Church where she taught junior high girls' Sunday school for twenty years. She had been a member of First Baptist Church of Lubbock since their move to Lubbock.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989, and by her son, Bob Vanstory, in 2005. Also preceding her in death were five brothers and one sister.

Survivors include her son, Eugene and wife Peggy, of Lubbock; her daughter-in-law, Sylvia of Lubbock; three grandsons, Douglas of Lubbock, Randy and his wife Roxi of New Braunfels, Eric and his wife Carissa of Frisco; two granddaughters, Yvonna Hays and her husband Doug of Dimmitt, Patti Jones and her husband Tom of Marietta, Ga.; five great-granddaughters, Ashley and Hannah Jones, of Marietta, Ga; and Breanne, Kaylee, and Lyndsay Vanstory, of Frisco; four sisters, Faye Burrow, of Riverside, Calif., Evelyn Cole of Lubbock, Flossie Duncan and Zoe Koinzan, both of Shallowater; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Douglas Vanstory, Randy Vanstory, Eric Vanstory, Doug Hays, Tom Jones, Morris Cole, Alan Duncan, and Wilcey Koinzan. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Downtown Bible Class.
