Richard “Dicky” Wayne Vardiman, Jr. went to meet his Savior Monday evening October 13th at the age of 67. Dicky was a faithful husband and father who left behind a beautiful legacy of love.
Growing up in Post, Dicky enjoyed participating in the FFA and spending time outdoors exploring Sand Creek and his family’s old homestead in Clairmont.
Dicky married his high school sweetheart, Cheryl Martin, on July 6th, 1967 and spent 47 years building a beautiful life and raising two daughters who were his pride and joy.
After joining the US Air Force in 1967, Dicky proudly served in Vietnam and stateside. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Outstanding Unit Award, and the Air Force Longevity Service Award.
Dicky went to work at Texas Power & Light as a young man in 1972, where he remained until his retirement in 2011.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Wayne Vardiman, Sr, and his mother Bonnie Bell Scogin Vardiman.
Dicky is survived by his wife Cheryl Martin Vardiman of Whitehouse, TX,
daughter Krista Cher Kumahata and husband Jim Kumahata of League City, TX; daughter Alesha Kim Keller and husband Vic Keller of Argyle, TX; Grandchildren Joel and Samantha Kumahata and Zach and Cameron Keller; brother Kenneth McFadin and wife Glenda of Abilene.
Dicky will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather who had a compassionate heart and gentle spirit. His love for history, the arts, and country dancing will be fondly remembered by many.
