November 7, 1870 - January 8, 1937
Ellis Britton "Britt" Goodwin was born November 7, 1870, in San Augustine County, TX, to Christopher Rankin Goodwin and Millie Arkaty Lambright Goodwin. On Jan. 23, 1894, Britt married Martha Frances "Mattie" Galloway in the San Augustine Co. home of her parents, James Washington Galloway and Mariah Ann Thacker Galloway. Britt owned and operated 2 of the first cotton gins in San Augustine Co. and ran a country store and a grist mill as well. In 1917 he moved his family to the Roaring Springs, TX, area in Motley County, where he farmed. Children of Britt and Mattie were Myrtie Mae, Lonie Levi, James Robert, Archie C., Curtis Ernel, Zelda Evilie, Lillie Florence, Annie Irene, Ellis Britton Jr., Duval P., Maurice Kermit, and Vernon V. Goodwin.
