The Wellington Leader January 1, 1981
Richard Berryman, 79, of Matador, died Saturday, Dec. 27, in Childress Hospital, one day after he became ill. He had been in Wellington with his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. O.V. Johnson, since November.
Mr. Berryman was born in Missouri and moved to Matador in 1919 from Hollis.
He owned a garage for many years before retiring. He belonged to First Baptist Church. On Feb. 6, 1921, he was married to Eda Hobbs in Matador. She died in 1970.
Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Johnson; a brother, Bill Berryman of Lubbock; three sisters, Mrs. Eva Wright of Arlington, Miss Marie Berryman and Mrs. Susie Messer of Wellington; four grandchildren: Dr. Jon Johnson of Waco, Jamie Johnson and Barry Johnson of Austin, and Dickie Johnson of Temple; and four great-grandchildren.
