Andrews Man
Dies In Crash
ANDREWS, May 12 -- Carl Lee Underwood, Jr., 31, was killed early today when his car overturned 20 miles west of here.
An employe of Andrews County, Underwood was a member of an oldtime family here. Known as "Curly", he served nine years in the Air Force during and after World War II.
Underwood was driving westward and apparently went to sleep. His car went off the road on the right side, traveled alongside the pavement several hundred feet, crossed over to the left side and into a bar ditch, where it started rolling.
Underwood was thrown from the car. Chest injuries caused his death, it was reported. There were no witnesses to the mishap, officials said.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Andrews Church of Christ, W. S. Wiley, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Andrews Cemetery, under direction of the Singleton Funeral Home.
Underwood is survived by his mother, Mrs. Bertha Underwood, Andrews; his grandfather, J. L. Underwood, Andrews; and a sister, Mrs. J. Marvin Brown, Bledsoe.
