Gerome Cloyd "G.C." Black was born June 29, 1931 in Merkel, Texas to Horace Gerome Black.

He did later go on to play professional Baseball in the Major League Farm Systems, including, the Lubbock Hubbers and the Lawton Giants. He joined the Army during the Korean War and while stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso managed to play baseball and softball. He continued to play fast pitch softball for a number of years. He umpired and refereed for football, basketball, and baseball for a total of 47 years from Little League to College games. He was recognized for his efforts in calling games in 1995 with the "Curley Hays Award" given by the Texas High School Coaches Association.

He worked for Amoco for many years before retiring in 1996. In 1995 he was appointed to serve as the Municipal Judge for the City of Andrews. He was looking forward to retiring from the bench next month when he turned 80 years old. "G.C' loved to ride his motorcycle and had plans to take great trips on it after he retired. He also loved his place on Lake Brownwood where he spent many hours fishing. He also looked forward to drinking coffee and playing golf with his buddies.

"G.C." was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge where he served as lodge president in Andrews. He was Past District President and Golden Troul Award Winner and he received his 50 year pin. He also served as Secretary/Treasurer and president of the Board at Andrews Country Club. One of G.C.'s many talents was playing the French Harp and loved to dance.
