Gene Auston Floyd, 77, of Andrews, passed away peacefully, Monday, July 19, 2010 at his home with his family at his side.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday July 22, at McNett Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Josh Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Andrews West Cemetery.

One of nine children, including his twin, Dean, Gene Auston Floyd was born on July 17, 1933 to Alva and Ila Floyd in Cement, Oklahoma. After joining the United States Navy in 1952, which included service in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, he married Harlene Gilmore, January 4th 1955, in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Gene and Harlene moved to Andrews in 1956. To this union was born two daughters: Denise Jeanne and Jenise Beth.

A long time Roughneck/Derrick man and Driller, he worked oilfields across West Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma from 1950 to 1987 when he retired due to health problems. A respected worker and leader, it was told that he was one of the strongest men in the oilfield community.

His greatest role came later in life when he became a grandfather and later a great-grandfather. His imagination and sense of humor will live on in the lives of his family. He had a wonderful gift of seeing the world slightly off kilter and even in his final days was still making his family laugh. Everyone in his family has a story and loving memory of him...Some as simple as him washing the dishes every evening...Some as quirky as drawing moustaches on the grandkids in permanent marker. His generosity, along with his strength, will be an everlasting comfort to those left behind.

He is survived by his wife, Harlene Floyd of Andrews; daughters Denise Jeanne Floyd Daley and husband Darrell, of Ehrenberg, AZ and Jenise Beth and husband Dr. Mike Neal of Mertzon, TX.

His grandchildren include: Jason Saldivar and wife, Jessica; Brandon Saldivar; Veronica McNett and husband Brian; Esperanza Meisner and husband Rocky.

His great-grandchildren include: Lexi Bueno McNett, Julia Saldivar, Kaleb Saldivar, Jill Auston Saldivar, Brody McNett, Zayda Meisner and Sadie Saldivar.
