*Obituary

Carl Sanders, 38, died at his home in Matador about 3:30 o'clock Monday morning, after a severe illness of several months. Mr. Sanders was first stricken last August and in the following month underwent an appendicitis operation where a cancerous condition of his stomach was discovered. In October he went to the Baker Hospital at Muscatine, Iowa, returning four weeks later after his condition had been declared incurable.

Carl Gibert Sanders was born in Fort Worth, Texas, August 6, 1898 and came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.S. Sanders to this county about 1906. He attended school for some time at Whiteflat. He was married February 6, 1921, to Miss Metta Jameson, and to this union 2 children were born, Chas. Herbert, 5, and Shirley Carline, 4 1/2 months.

Mr. Sanders was a devout Christian, having been a member of the Methodist Church since early youth. He numbered his friends by his aquaintances [sic] and his name was synonymous with the highest attributes to character and the sincere following of Christ's teachings. Mr. Sanders was employed for about ten years by the Matador Schools as care-taker, where he worked until the time of his illness.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church at 4:45 and conducted by Rev. Bob Jameson assisted by Rev. D.D. Denison. Interment was made in East Mound Cemetery.

Besides a host of friends and relatives, he is survived by his wife and children, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.S. Sanders of Ft. Worth, one brother, Clyde Sanders of Fort Worth, and four sisters. Only one sister, Mrs. Nota Mae Phillips, also of Fort Worth, was able to attend the funeral services.

Other friends and relatives attending the funeral were: Rev. C.E. Jameson of Shamrock, Mrs. Guy Hunter of Wheeler, Mr. and Mrs. L.Y. Jameson of Olton, Mrs. Arthur Martin and daughter of Olton, and Mrs. Charles Walton and Mrs. Val Eblen of Paducah.
