Catherine Batenhorst, 91, of Canyon died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, in Amarillo.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in Brooks Funeral Directors Chapel in Canyon. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Umbarger. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Umbarger.
Catherine Batenhorst was born Nov. 24, 1915, to Maximillion and Elizabeth Lohaus Schuele in Cedar Rapids, Neb. She married Raymond Batenhorst on Feb. 11, 1935, in Cedar Rapids. He preceded her in death in 1980. Catherine was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Christian Mothers and Umbarger Senior Citizens. She was a generous donor of her handiwork for the Umbarger German Sausage Festival each year. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Catherine always remembered her children's, grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's birthdays and anniversaries with cards.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Johnny Batenhorst, in 1993; three brothers; and seven sisters.
Survivors include five daughters, Theresa Artho and husband Joe of Hereford, Elaine Brorman and husband John of Adrian and Judith Batenhorst, Marian Batenhorst and Donna Whitten and husband Lynn, all of Canyon; a son, Charles Batenhorst and wife Debbie of Umbarger; a brother, Frank Schuele and wife Beverly of Columbus, Neb.; 22 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild expected in December.
