UMBARGER — Mary Theresa Averbeck Friemel, 79, of Umbarger died Friday, July 13, 2012.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Monday in Brooks Chapel with Deacon Bill Dorsey officiating. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Umbarger with the Rev. George Kalampatt and the Rev. Scott Raef, minister of St. Thomas Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Umbarger. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon.
Mrs. Friemel was born Oct. 28, 1932, to Joseph and Lucy Averbeck. She married Richard Dennis Friemel on May 2, 1958. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy, attended West Texas College and graduated from Amarillo College as a licensed vocational nurse. After graduation, she worked for several years at Baptist St. Anthony's Hospital in surgery, then worked with an ear, nose and throat surgeon.
Mrs. Friemel was a member of St. Mary's of Umbarger Altar Society and served eight years on the council of economic affairs at St. Mary's Church. She was awarded Region I Conservation Homemaker, top 51 counties and was awarded Palo Duro Conservation Homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Henry Joseph Averbeck; and her stepmother, Paula.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Richard D. Friemel; seven children, Stephen M. Friemel and wife Renee, James E. Friemel and wife Melanie, Monica M. Wilhelm and husband Tim, Denise K. Schenk and husband Kevin, Frederick J. Friemel and wife Alecia, Grace C. Hilliard and husband Damon and Stan P. Friemel and wife Kelly; 26 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Brigitta Averbeck.
