John Wayne Minnick of Midland, Texas passed away to be with our Heavenly Father on June 24, 2022.
A visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Friday, July 1st and the funeral service will take place on Saturday, July 2nd at 12pm at The Branch at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory. After the service a graveside memorial will be held at Trinity Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Big Spring, Texas.
John was born in Big Spring, Texas to John Edwin Minnick Jr. and Sharon Diane (Minnick) Marcum.
John went to Lee High School in Midland where he met the love of his life, Tamara Lorraine Johnson. John and Tamara were high school sweethearts who met in the Mighty Rebel Band and both played coronet. John greatly enjoyed his time as a member of the Mighty Rebel Band. During his senior year the band was invited to march in the 104th Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, CA. After high school, John and Tamara were married and went on to enjoy many adventures together that included John's love of fishing and shooting all types of guns.
John had a huge heart for all animals and loved dogs, horses, and especially his beloved cats, Jasmine and Bam Bam. There was not an animal that he could not befriend.
Cooking was also a passion of John's and he was always wanting to create and try new recipes.
John loved the mountains of southern New Mexico. The Cloudcroft and Ruidoso areas were visited frequently for camping trips.
John loved history and he was greatly involved in studying the Civil War as well as World War II.
He also loved Star Wars and was involved in the 501st Legion which is a nonprofit charity-based costuming group.
The Texas Renaissance Festival was one of his favorite activities and he enjoyed attending dressed as a pirate captain.
In the last three years, the love of hunting became another passion that John enjoyed while visiting his aunt's ranch in Llano.
John had a huge heart and was a very caring person.
His loyalty to his family and close friends was seen in how deeply he cared for them. John had a charitable heart as he would do anything for someone in need.
He was deeply devoted to his wife of almost 24 years and they did most everything together.
John was a devoted Christian and his faith in the Lord was a guiding factor throughout his life.
John is survived by his wife, Tamara, his mother, Sharon Marcum and husband David, his father, Edwin Minnick, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Stephen and Bonnie Johnson, his aunt, Sheila McKinney and husband Gary, and his uncle, Alan Roman and wife Cathey. He is survived by his cousins, Les Simpson and wife Crystal, Jeffrey Roman and wife Kristen, and Jennifer Jobe and husband Jason. John is also survived by two step-brothers, Josh and Stephen Marcum, his brother-in-law, Stephen Johnson II and sister-in-law, Michelle Johnson.
John is preceded in death by his infant brother, Michael Minnick, step-mother, Donna Minnick, and grandparents, John and Lorene Minnick of Midland and Bobby and Merle Roman of Midland.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Midland EMS Fire and Rescue, Midland PD, and the Memorial Hospital doctors, nurses, and staff.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made be made in John's name to the Lone Star Animal Sanctuary and The Make A Wish Foundation.
